Authorities have cleared Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch in an assault and property damage case.
According to ESPN, police in Bellevue, Washington released a statement Wednesday evening announcing that Lynch had officially been cleared of any involvement in an Aug. 10 incident.
"The Bellevue Police Department has determined that Marshawn Lynch was not involved in this incident in any way," the statement read. "The case remains an open and active investigation. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from Mr. Lynch and the Seahawks organization during this investigation."
The investigation stemmed from a woman who, earlier this week, named that the 28-year-old athlete as a suspect.
The team spoke to Lynch and responded to the allegations by calling them “bogus.”
This was not the running back’s first brush with the law. He plead guilty to two misdemeanors from 2008 and 2009 when he was with the Buffalo Bills. And after his 2012 DUI arrest, he plead guilty to reckless driving and received probation. Now that he has been cleared in this latest investigation, hopefully he can put his legal troubles behind him and focus on football.
Last year, Lynch was a key component of the Seattle Seahawks offense. He rushed for 1,257 yards and had 14 touchdowns, Pro-Football-Reference.com noted. He was also named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career and won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks.
