About two dozen people were stranded on the high-point of a roller coaster at Six Flags in Maryland on Sunday afternoon.
The passengers were stuck in the car for about four hours while waiting to be rescued. The ride, the Joker’s Jinx roller coaster, stopped at about 75 feet in the air, reported Reuters.
The passengers were rescued one at a time by crew members who used a tower bucket to reach them. Passengers were loaded into the bucket and then lowered to the ground.
According to CBS News, the point at which the roller coaster stopped made it difficult to rescue passengers, causing the rescue to go on for hours.
“They are in a divot of the track, so they are in a place where they can’t really go forward or backward without power,” Prince George’s County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor said.
17 adults and seven children were stuck on the ride. Water and umbrellas were given to them to help and shield them from the sun.
No injuries were reported and the ride was shut down for the remainder of the day.
