It’s no secret that McDonald’s, like many other fast-food chains, have had disappointing sales for quite some time and now the fast-food giant has decided to name a new president.
According to USA Today, the burger chain is hoping that by hiring former executive Mike Andres, 56, he can aid the U.S. restaurants in turning around the sales slump.
Andres succeeds Jeff Stratton, 58, who is retiring after more than four decades with the company.
Fortune noted that Stratton was tapped in 2012 by McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson to try and bring growth back to the U.S. market. To his credit, Stratton expanded the Dollar Menu and introduced new sandwiches, but the results did not change and sales continued to slip.
Now, as the new president, Andres will face the same tall task. Sales at the fast-food chain have been hampered by the plentiful competition, more health-conscious diets and the cost of eating out.
Andres started with McDonald’s managing a family-owned store in California. Later, he served in executive roles and headed the restaurant’s Central Division in the U.S. until 2012. He was most recently the CEO of Logan’s Roadhouse.
