Next month, Scotland will host one of the most anticipated elections worldwide this year, as the country’s independence from the U.K. is in question. Voters will head to the polls on Sept. 18 for the historic referendum and British celebrities are now joining the discussion, all asking voters to vote against independence.

Over 200 U.K. stars from all sectors of the entertainment world, from film to music to books, have signed a letter addressed directly to Scottish voters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of the luminaries who signed it include Mick Jagger, Sting, Judi Dench, Simon Cowell, Steve Coogan, Patrick Stewart, Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West.

“We want to let you know how very much we value our bonds of citizenship with you, and to express our hope that you will vote to renew them,” the letter reads. “What unites us is much greater than what divides us. Let’s stay together.”

The letter was organized by television historian Dan Snow, who hopes to see the public sign on as well.

As Businessweek notes, there appears to be support against independence. Scotland has been a part of the U.K. for 307 years and it could stay that way.

Still, celebrities are making major contributions against independence. J.K. Rowling donated $1.7 million to a campaign against independence in June. David Bowie also showed his support in a speech Kate Moss read at the BRIT Awards.

Sean Connery is among the celebrities on the other side, pushing for Scotland independence.
