Jakub has recently been receiving media attention for her blog, Lisa Jakub: A blog about acting. Then not acting, where she addresses the reasoning behind leaving the entertainment industry and discusses what her life is like as a former child actress.

With the recent death of Robin Williams, the Independence Day actress wrote a saddening post, Farewell to Robin Williams: A thank you note, on her blog to honor the comedian. Jakub begins by describing a detailed story of a time when Williams stood up for her during the filming of the 20th Century Fox comedy film.

According to Independent, Williams willingly wrote a personal letter to Jakub’s school after they kicked her out, requesting she be let back in, claiming, “a student of her calibre and talent should be encouraged to go out in the world and learn through her work."

As Jakub reminisced on the memory, she admitted that it was his generosity in a “backstabbing industry” that truly mattered.

"It was entirely clear that Robin had my back,” she added. “I know I said 'thank you' at the time and I'm sure I wrote one of those stiff thank you notes that 14-year-olds write with slanting lines and spelling mistakes. But that all seems so insufficient now. Even though I had not spoken with Robin in a very long time, I always assumed there would be some future opportunity to tell him that his letter changed my life."

She later drew attention to how Williams had died, admitting that she also suffers from depression and is not ashamed to say so.

“You can bring it to the light, you can tell the truth,” she wrote. “You can go to a meeting, you can reach out to a friend. None of us are alone."

The former actress concluded her farewell to Williams by stressing the importance of telling loved ones you are thankful for them and included the contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
