Paramount is clearly hoping that Jason Retiman’s new film Men, Women & Children will go over better with critics than last year’s Labor Day. The studio has scheduled the film for an awards-friendly October release.
Men, Women & Children, which gives Adam Sandler a more serious role, centers on the role technology plays in our lives and its effects on different generations. The unique trailer, which was released earlier this week, has no dialogue, with only texts and social media posts speaking for the characters. The other stars in the cast include Jennifer Garner, Ansel Elgort and Judy Greer.
According to Box Office Mojo’s calendar, the film will get its limited release on Oct. 1, which is a Wednesday. That weekend, David Fincher’s Gone Girl and Anabelle from Warner Bros. are also opening.
Reitman is best known for helming Up In The Air and Juno, which were both nominated for Best Picture. His last film, Labor Day with Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet, was a critical disappointment and failed to get a single Oscar nomination.
In other release date news, Deadline reports that Disney has decided to delay Kevin Costner’s McFarland USA until Feb. 20, 2015. Clearly, Disney decided that releasing anything on the same weekend as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is a bad idea.
