Paul Rudd is best known for his loveable comedy roles in Judd Apatow movies, but he will have to shed that image for his latest role: a superhero. Rudd stars as Scott Lang, a con man who will become Ant-Man in the new Marvel movie.

An image of Rudd as a sulking Lang, wearing a jacket and black hoodie under the Golden Gate Bridge, was released by USA Today and Marvel on Tuesday. It is the first image of Rudd as the character released by the studio.

Lang is putting his con man past behind him and strikes up a surprising relationship with Dr. Hank Pym, who has created the Ant-Man technology. It gives anyone who wears it the ability to change sizes. Legendary actor Michael Douglas is playing Pym.

“The way technology has advanced just in the last few years, picturing this world, what they can do with this kind of story line and character, I thought this could be something that could be very strange and hasn't been seen before,” Rudd told USA Today earlier in the summer. “I was really excited about being a part of something like that.”

The image comes just a day after director Peyton Reed announced that production began. In addition, the studio said that Judy Greer, John Slattery, T.I., Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington and Abby Ryder Fortson will also be in the film.

Evangeline Lilly also stars as Pym’s daughter. Corey Stoll plays the film’s villain, Yellowjacket.

Ant-Man opens on July 17, 2015.
