The highly-acclaimed Cali rapper Kendrick Lamar is debuting his m.A.A.d short film at the Sundance NEXT Fest on Aug. 9.

The film is inspired by his explosive debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city. The log line for the film on the Sundance website reads, "Commissioned by Kendrick Lamar for his good kid, m.A.A.d city concert tour, director Kahlil Joseph creates a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms."

Khalil Joseph, director of the 14-minute short film, has already had success with Sundance, winning an award for his work with artist Flying Lotus on short film Until the Quiet Comes. And also an award for his insightful visuals of South Central Los Angeles used as a backdrop for Kendrick's performances at the Yeezus tour, according to Fader.

The Sundance NEXT Fest is a display of film and musical performances. After the showing of m.A.A.d, singer Tinashe will perform, Pitchfork reports. Among other performances are Father John Misty and Warpaint.
