CNN is being sued over a July incident where senior international correspondent Arwa Damon got drunk and ended up biting two EMTs. She later apologized for her actions.
According to the lawsuit, which TMZ, exclusively obtained, Damon was "seriously intoxicated" on July 19 at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
While drunk, the foreign correspondent became aggressive and ended up lashing out at two EMTs, Tracy Lamar and Charles Simons, who tried to help her. In the suit, the two claim they suffered bruises and that Damon bit them both on their left arms.
They are suing CNN for $1 million apiece as they believe CNN hired the reporter despite her tendency to drink too much and habit of becoming unruly, something she also allegedly is even when not drunk.
The New York Post's Page Six reports that the State Department even opened an investigation into the incident. "The State Department prepared a report on the incident, which was sent to CNN," a source explained.
After sobering up, Damon then sent an apology to those working in the U.S. Embassy and noted she doesn't remember everything that happened, but was truly sorry.
"It's been an extremely stressful time, I was exhausted, I had not had proper food all day and clearly miscalculated how my body would handle the alcohol consumed," Damon said in the e-mail. "Needless to say, I am utterly mortified and take full responsibility for my actions, which are inexcusable."
CNN claimed, as of Sunday night, not to be aware of the lawsuit, and Damon reportedly was still working for the network.
