San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested early Aug. 31 on a possible domestic violence charge.
According to the Associated Press, police were called to a home after they received a call about a possible domestic abuse situation. He was taken into custody on a felony domestic violence charge, and was being held on $25,000 bail. McDonald made bail around 9 a.m and was released.
The 49ers released a statement saying that they knew about the arrest and that they take something like this very seriously. They will be looking further into the incident to gather all the evidence.
McDonald has a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 15. He will not missing any 49ers game, according to USA Today.
This is the first domestic abuse arrest under the NFL’s new domestic abuse rules. If McDonald is convicted on the charge, he would be suspended for six games. A second incident would be a minimum of one year suspension.
McDonald has 171 combined tackles, 16.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries in his eight years playing for the 49ers, according to ESPN Stats.
