With the weekend coming to a close, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brought in $65 millionat U.S. and Canadian box offices, beating Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. With the success of the movie, director Michael Bay has his eyes on a sequel in 2016.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Producer Michael Bay will reunite with writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to bring the teenage mutant turtle brothers back on screen. It hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Megan Fox will reprise her role as the leading lady, April O’Neil. But, it can be expected that the character, who has a main role in the franchise, will return.

Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey was happy about how the movie became a box
office hit.

“To know moviegoers are embracing the Turtles with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for,” Grey said.

The film does not have an exact release date, but it is expected to be out in theaters sometime in June 2016. This would put the film against the anticipated X-Men: Apocalypse, which is also set to be release in the end of May of the same year.

Seeing how well the film did against Guardians of the Galaxy, Turtles may not have a hard time going up against Marvel films in the future.

According to Screen Rant, Marvel has a few other movies coming out in 2016 which may just dominate the box offices. Only time will tell if Bay will make a third film of the Turtles, and go head to head against Marvel.
