Sigourney Weaver has been cast in the big screen adaptation of A Monster Calls, joining Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones.
Juan Antonio Bayona has been tapped to direct the film, which is an adaptation of Patrick Ness' children's novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who was the first to learn of Weaver's casting.
The Alien star will play the main character's grandmother, who is a serious woman. She takes in the boy after his mother passes away.
Weaver is set to appear in the upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings and recently finished filming Chappie. The actress also opted not to join The Expendabelles.
A Monster Calls, which won Ness and illustrator Jim Kay Carnedie and Greenaway Medals, follows a young boy struggling to handle bullies and a terminally ill mother, so he turns to a fantasy world that features a tree monthers.
Neeson joined the project back in May and he will voice the monster, while Jones will play the 13-year-old boy's sick mother.
Bill Pohlad, Mitch Horwits, Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King and Patrick Wachsberger are on board to executive produce the film from focus Features, Participant Media, Lionsgate International and River Road Entertainment.
Focus holds domestic rights, while Lionsgate will handle international distribution.
A Monster Calls will hit theaters Oct. 14, 2016.
