Originally set to be released in October, the upcoming James Franco and Seth Rogen assassination comedy The Interview will now be released on Christmas Day.
The new rescheduled release date of Dec. 25, 2014 will put the film up against Disney's Into the Woods and Angelina Jolie's Unbroken, TheWrap reports.
"The combination of Seth, Evan [Goldberg], and James is pure comedic magic," Sony Worldwide Distribution president Rory Bruer said. "In our early screenings of The Interview we've seen that they've delivered yet again, and we're thrilled to be making the move to Christmas - one of the most important moviegoing days of the year."
The film, directed by Rogen and Goldberg, follows two wannabe journalists who secure an interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but find themselves hired by the CIA to assassinate him.
Unsurprisingly, the film has not made North Korea all that happy, with North Korea U.N. Ambassador Ja Song Nam calling the film an "act of war" in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
In the letter, Ja notes says the plot "involves insulting and assassinating the supreme leadership" and the film should never be allowed to be released. If the film does come out, America "will be fully responsible for encouraging and sponsoring terrorism."
