Authorities said they have in custody a man who is suspected of shooting two Charlotte police officers and a 10-year-old girl on Sunday afternoon.
The Associated Press noted that 27-year-old Brandon Brewer has been taken into custody after officers responded to a domestic violence disturbance around 2 p.m.
The initial emergency call was made by a female, who officers were unable to locate when they arrived at the residence. A second call was placed about 90 minutes later from the same address alerting police that the male suspect had left the home and was armed with a shotgun.
Brewer encountered the young girl when she answered the door of a home he went to looking for someone. He shot at the child and entered the residence after being told that the female he requested was not there.
WBTV reported that the young girl was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been listed in good condition. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe said that two officers, Kevin Stafford and Eric Bojaj, were treated for minor injuries.
Shortly after 4 p.m. SWAT officers were able to get Brewer to surrender.
