For anyone who has ever seen a Cheesecake Factory menu with calorie listings, it may not come as a surprise that the restaurant just became a winner—or loser—of several Xtreme Eating Awards.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest investigated a number of unhealthy eateries and found that the Cheesecake Factory serves its customers the most caloric, fatty, and sugary foods.
Paige Einstein, a registered dietician at the Center for Science, emphasized the magnitude of the problem. “In the past, our winners have usually had about 1,500 calories,” Einstein told USA Today. “Most of these dishes have at least 2,000.”
The calories contained in dishes such as the Farfalle with Chicken and Roasted Garlic, the Bruléed French Toast, and the Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake, would require extreme and extensive exercise to burn off.
“I don’t think people really know just how bad these meals can be,” Einstein said. But, there are healthier options at the Cheesecake Factory and other Xtreme Eating Award winners, such as Red Robin and Famous Dave’s, that consumers have the option to eat.
