Three people were injured Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland.
The Washington Post reported that Maryland Transit Authority officials said that the entire span of the westbound side of the bridge was closed for hours following the crash.
One lane of the eastbound side was also shut down, but all lanes have since reopened.
Further information on the cause of the crash was not immediately given. However, according to WBAL, three people were sent to the hospital as a result of a head-on collision just before 11 a.m.
Of the injured, one person had to be airlifted from the scene and the other two are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Additional information on the victims and that status of the critically injured is not available at this time.
The transportation authority said that traffic had backed up for miles in both directions around the site of the crash and delays are still being experienced on the well-traveled bridge.
