Two South Pasadena High School students have been arrested and charged after they allegedly planned a school shooting once classes were back in session.
Reuters reported that prosecutors said on Wednesday that the teenagers, ages 16 and 17, were charged in juvenile court with one count of making criminal threats. They have both denied the charges.
Investigators on the case said that the students had a specific plot to carry out the mass shootings.
"As they put it, they just wanted to kill as many people as possible," police chief Arthur Miller said at a news conference. "There was no target date but they had a very, very specific plan."
ABC 7 noted that the one suspect’s stepfather said that he and his wife do not condone whatever their son may have been planning and apologized to the community for any alleged plot.
Security will be heightened at the high school when classes resume on Thursday and counselors will be on hand for students and staff members.
