A U.S. doctor, who contracted Ebola while treating patients in West Africa, has recovered and is set to be released from the hospital on Thursday.
According to NBC News, Dr. Kent Brantly, 33, was treated at an Atlanta hospital after contracting the deadly virus while working in Africa with the Christian group Samaritan’s Purse.
The Associated Press noted that Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, released a statement about how thankful he was that the doctor recovered from the debilitating disease.
"Today I join all of our Samaritan’s Purse team around the world in giving thanks to God as we celebrate Dr. Kent Brantly’s recovery from Ebola and release from the hospital.”
More good news is that Brantly’s colleague, Nancy Writebol, 59, who also contracted the Ebola virus, will be discharged from the hospital’s isolation unit.
The two were first sickened earlier this month while working at a missionary clinic in Liberia.
The virus has been plaguing the African nations of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria for the past several months and has killed upwards of 1,000 people.
