UPS has become the latest store hit by a data breach in which consumer information may have been compromised.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the United Parcel Service Inc. confirmed that a security breach occurred at more than 50 of its stores between January and August.

The New York Times noted that the company hired an information security firm which discovered the malware on its cash registers. Stores in as many as 24 different states may have been hacked and those locations are listed on the UPS website.

“I understand this type of incident can be disruptive and cause frustration. I apologize for any anxiety this may have caused our customers. At The UPS Store, the trust of our customers is of utmost importance,” said president of The UPS Store, Tim Davis in a statement.

The company also said that the malware has since been eliminated and customers who may have been affected by the breach have been notified. UPS has offered identity protection and credit monitoring services to those consumers.
