The next time we see Henry Cavill’s Superman on the big screen will be a bit sooner than we thought, now that Warner Bros. has blinked in the standoff with Disney and Marvel over the May 6, 2016 release date.
Back in March, Marvel dared DC Comics and Warner Bros. to come up with a new release date for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when it scheduled Captain America 3 for a May 6, 2016 release date. Since then, Hollywood has been anxiously awaiting to see which one would make a move, and it turns out that Warner Bros. has decided to back down.
Now, strangely enough, the move isn’t to later that summer. The new schedule on Box Office Mojo shows that Warner Bros. has decided to release a big-budget comic book movie in March. Dawn of Justice is now scheduled for March 25, 2016.
Clearly, this year’s April release for Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a sign that Hollywood is dispensing with the “summer blockbuster.” After all, we also know that Star Wars: Episode VII is opening outside of the summer in December 2015. This could be a new trend to keep an eye on.
Box Office Mojo’s new schedule also shows a whopping nine new dates for DC Comics movies. At least one of these will be the Justice League movie Zack Snyder will direct. The dates for these untitled projects are:
Aug. 5, 2016
June 24, 2017
Nov. 17, 2017
March 23, 2018
July 27, 2018
April 5, 2019
June 14, 2019
April 3, 2020
June 19, 2020
So, just make sure you have a free weekend in June 2020 and you’ll be all set.
