Just like their toy namesake, The Lego Movie franchise is starting to stack up. Two new Lego films now have release dates.
The upcoming films are slated for Memorial Day weekend releases on May 25, 2018 and May 24, 2019. This is in keeping with the previously announced sequel to The Lego Movie, which will come out on May 26, 2017. Another Lego film, the separate franchise Lego Ninjago, is also on the horizon with a Sept. 23, 2016 release date.
The Hollywood Reporter’s sources have confirmed that Warner Bros.’ two announced animated film slots will be filled by building block-blockbusters. Future Lego installments were predicted by TheCelebrityCafe.com when the studio revealed their schedule for the rest of the decade.
According to Indiewire, Warner Bros. has planned no other, non-Lego animated films in the near future. While the two Lego films are set for 2018 and 2019, there has been no confirmation on whether they’ll be further sequels or if they’ll explore other established Lego brands.
The Lego Movie, which started it all earlier this year, has grossed over $468 million worldwide.
