Wildfires have been raging in California and now the menacing problem has reached the neighboring states of Oregon and Washington as homes there are also being threatened.
According to the Associated Press, thanks to some light rain and humidity, firefighters were able to get a handle on two Northern California fires by Tuesday morning. The fires had burned through more than 100 square miles of terrain and threatened hundreds of homes.
However, CBS News reported that other wildfires are still burning furiously and threatening the properties of residents in Oregon and Washington state.
One fire in the Siskiyou Mountains, along the Oregon-California border, slowed a bit as temperatures cooled down, but jeopardized nearly 300 homes there. And in Washington, another wildfire destroyed a dozen structures and threatened to burn about 80 homes that were evacuated in Kittitas County.
Although wildfires are not uncommon in California, this year the state has seen an above average amount of fires. Officials warned residents to expect such conditions this summer after one of the worst droughts in the state’s history.
