Before Ray Rice was vilified in the media for his disturbing act in an elevator in February, the running back was a star for the Baltimore Ravens, so it should come as no surprise that fans have shirts with his name on the back. But if you don’t want to wear them ever again, the Ravens are offering an exchange program.
The team announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon that they will offer an exchange for a Rice shirt at stadium stores. More details will be announced later.
Back in May, the New England Patriots had to launch a similar program for Aaron Hernandez jerseys after the former tight end was charged with murder.
Meanwhile, companies are starting to terminate their relationships with Rice. EA Sports already announced that Rice will be removed from Madden NFL 15 rosters, beginning on Friday. Nike also told The Hollywood Reporter that Rice’s contract with the sporting goods company is over.
Early this morning, Rice’s now-wife, Janay Rice defended him in an Instagram post, although she is the woman Rice punched in the elevator. Rice himself has also spoken with ESPN, telling the network, “I have to be strong for my wife. She is so strong. ... We are in good spirits. We have a lot of people praying for us and we'll continue to support each other.”
He later added, “I have to be there for [Janay] and my family right now and work through this.”
