The Colossus Rollercoaster at Six Flag’s Magic Mountain caught on fire Monday afternoon after welders began renovating the famous rollercoaster.

The flames were put out shortly after the fire broke out, but not before extensive damage was done to the ride. The fire caused a portion of the rollercoaster to collapse which produced a massive hole at the top of the lift hill according to E! News . No one was present at the time of the fire, since the ride has been closed since mid- August for renovations.
The 36-year-old classic coaster is made of wood, just one the things that techs at Magic Mountain were planning to change in the revamp of the ride. Two weeks ago the famous theme park announced that it would be turning the classic ride into a wood and steel hybrid reports the Los Angeles Times . They then planned on renaming the ride Twisted Colossus, which was scheduled to open sometime next year. In total, the park wanted about 3,000 feet of track to be removed from the ride during its renovation. There is no word yet on if construction will be delayed due to the fire.
