The classic TV series CHiPS is getting a modern feature film adaptation from Warner Brothers.

According to Deadline, Dax Shepard will be writing, directing and starring in this modern version of the TV series, which has had a cult following since it went off the air over 30 years ago.

The original CHiPS aired for six seasons on NBC, running from 1977 to 1983. It revolved around two police officers working on the California Highway Patrol, and combined elements of action and comedy.

Shepard will star as Jon Baker, the role originally portrayed by Larry Wilcox in the TV series. Beside Shepard will be Michael Pena as Frank Poncherello, originally played by Erik Estrada. Shepard himself is also a race car and motorcycle driver, and he is expected to be doing his own stunts in the film.

As Deadline reports, Warner Brothers has been trying to reboot CHiPS for years now, recently attempting to revive it starring Wilmer Valderrama of That's 70's Show around the time movie remakes of Starsky & Hutch and The Dukes Of Hazzard were coming out.

According to Slashfilm, this new take on the series will be an action packed buddy film along the lines of Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon, possibly departing a bit from the tone of the original show.
