Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is still three years away, but we're already starting to get some information from director James Gunn about what we can expect from the next installment.
According to Collider, in a panel at Dragon Con, Gunn revealed that he planned to introduce more female characters in the sequel, noting that the Guardians comic books feature plenty of women that could be adapted on screen.
However, Gunn did confirm that Carol Danvers will not be among these new female characters, though he believes she will make an appearance in the Marvel series of films at some point. Danvers is known for being the first Ms. Marvel.
The issue of female superheroes in Marvel movies has been somewhat controversial lately, with many fans disappointed that the studio has no plans for a female driven film for the foreseeable future.
Last month, Marvel studio president Kevin Feige said he was hopeful for more female leads "sooner rather than later," but suggested that the studio was too busy for one at the moment, according to Slashfilm.
