Guardians of the Galaxy reached the top of the box office Labor Day weekend, becoming the highest grossing domestic movie of the year.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi film brought in 16.3 million over the weekend bringing total sales for the film to $274.6 million, and successfully knocking The Captain America sequel Winter Soldier, which earned $259.8 million, out from its top spot in domestic sales.
This is Guardians fifth week in theaters but according to Reuters it’s still doing well in ticket sales. Disney says ticket sales have only dropped 5 percent since last weekend. Worldwide the film has earned $553.6 million in sales.
Following behind Guardians in the box office are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, If I Stay, Let's Be Cops and new weekend releases As Above So Below and November Man. The new releases were a bit of a letdown only bringing in 8.3 million and 7.7 million respectively.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as Rocket and Vin Diesel as Groot.
