Oscar-winning actor Jeff Goldblum appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday night to promote his jazz band the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, which is playing at the Café Carlyle in New York City starting Sept. 16. While on the show, Goldblum led host Seth Meyers and audience members of the late night talk show in a sing-along to fan-made lyrics to the theme song from Jurassic Park, the sci-fi/action film trilogy directed by Steve Spielberg that starred Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm.
“One could go on the Internet as I did a while ago,” Goldblum said after denying the claim Meyer’s made that he had created the lyrics himself. “I only learned a piece of it.”
“I know not whom [wrote the lyrics,]” Goldblum continued. “But they wrote something to the tune, which I’ll bet you know, because most people have seen it 200 times.”
Before singing the lyrics, Goldblum promised to teach the audience the lyrics so that they could sing it together. Holding up a handheld microphone, Goldblum sang “In Jurassic Park/ Scary in the Dark/ I’m so scared/ That I’ll be eaten.”
The audience then repeatedly sang back the lyrics with Meyers while the show’s band, the 8G Band, provided notes to sing along to.
“We should have been on [the children's TV show] Captain Kangaroo,” Goldblum said jokingly after the audience clapped.
After the performance, Meyers admitted that it was probably best to not have the lyrics in the film.
“Really?” Goldblum said giving Meyers a disappointed look as the audience laughed. “I think it was a big mistake.
Goldblum and his band is set to play at the Café Carlyle from Sept. 16 to Sept. 20.
Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weeknights at 12:35 a.m. ET/PT.
