It turns out the wacky adventures of your favorite comedy band will not be returning to the air waves.
After reports of HBO green lighting a four episode deal with Jemaine Clement, better known as part of the musical duo Flight of the Conchords alongside band mate Bret McKenzie, Clement announced on Twitter Tuesday that the rumors were not true in reviving Flight of the Concords, the 2007 television series staring the duo.
“We are not working on a (four episode) Conchords show for HBO,” Clement said on his @AJemaineClement Twitter account. “I am working on another idea with them though, hence the mix-up.”
The confusion erupted when in an interview with The Guardian, the New Zealand singer confirmed that HBO had commissioned him for a project, the actual deal to be an entirely new television production, as reported by GQ Australia.
“It was supposed to be this year but then we decided to put What We Do in the Shadows out ourselves,” Clement said in his interview with The Guardian of the untitled HBO project while promoting his vampire film What We Do in the Shadows.
Taika Waititi, director and star of What We Do in the Shadows and one of the directors on Flight of the Conchords, is also commissioned by HBO for the project, according to The Guardian. McKenzie has not been confirmed for this project, according to Rip It Up.
Flight of the Conchords ran for two seasons on HBO until ending in 2009. The show’s plot centered around the adventures of Clement and McKenzie, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, attempting to become famous in New York City. The show received a total of 10 Emmy nominations and featured comedians such as Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig, Parks & Recreations star Aziz Ansari and King of Queens star Patton Oswalt.
