Katie Holmes is hoping to take her career in a new direction.
The actress has signed on to direct her first movie, All We Had. She will also star in front of the camera and will get to work with Josh Boone, the director behind The Fault in Our Stars.
Holmes will play a single mother with a daughter, who are living a life near poverty, notes TheWrap. They find a new home in small town America, much to their surprise.
Boone wrote the script and Jane Rosenthal of Tribeca is producing. Holmes and Berry Welsh are the co-producers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is based on the first novel by Annie Weatherwax, which was just released last month.
“I am very excited and honored to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie's incredible characters to the screen,” Holmes said in a statement.
After the success of The Fault in Our Stars, Boone has been taking on more projects, including The Stand, a long-gestating project based on Stephen King’s novels. It will be interesting to hear if he gives Holmes any advice.
As for Holmes, she was recently seen in The Giver. Her next film, Miss Meadows, opens in November and was seen at the Tribeca Film Festival.
