Among the most surprising summer successes of last year was Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Dave Franco and Mark Ruffalo. So, while there has been word that a sequel is being made, it's now official. A June 10, 2016 release date has been slapped onto the upcoming movie.
Slashfilm reported on the recent release date announcement, noting that this puts the sequel up against Uncharted, and will be one week after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and a week before the Pixar sequel Finding Dory and Shane Black's (Iron Man 3) The Nice Guy. At one time, it was also the week that How to Train Your Dragon 3 was set to hit theaters, before being pushed back to June 9, 2017.
Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is taking directing duties over Louis Leterrier, who is currently helming the Sasha Baron Cohen comedy Grimsby. The script comes from Ed Solomon, who co-wrote the original, and Pete Chiarelli (The Proposal). The principal cast mentioned above are all set to reprise their roles, with Michael Caine also joining in on the fun this time.
