Radical Something are definitely true to their name- the trio are truly something radical. Radical Something is comprised of members Loggy, Josh Cocktail and Big Red, and their latest single, “Cali Get Down,” an upbeat mixture of hip-hop, reggae, soul, with some noticeable elements of pop and rock, is a fun song celebrating the Golden State.

The members are all from California, and are now all based in Los Angeles. Their love for their home state oozes out of “Cali Get Down.” The pre-chorus exclaims, “Left Coast, Best Coast, did I stutter?/ West Coast, that’s my bread and butter,” paired with rapping, singing, and bellowing “Cali!” is strewn throughout the song. The song starts with the lyrics, “Cali get down like this,” with a distinct reggae guitar and clapping that gradually builds up into a full instrumental arrangement that draws from various musical styles.

The song has no shortage of references to what they consider to be the best coast, with lyrics such as, “she coasting up on a Santa Cruz long one,” and “she’s slapping down Sunset/she’s so cold like ‘Frisco.” There's even a reference to a California fast food mainstay, In-N-Out Burger, making sure that the entire song is like one big dedication to California.

As a California native and lover, I personally found myself nodding along and even starting to mouth some of the lyrics as I listened to the song on repeat. Though the summer is winding down, “Cali Get Down” is definitely keeping the California summer alive for at least a few more weeks (but really, California seems to stay in summer mode well into September!)
