Seven people have been charged in connection with a machete attack on two brothers as they waited for a train on a Chicago platform.
The Associated Press reported that authorities said the two were approached by the group on Monday at the Kedzie Brown Line station. The brothers, ages 17 and 26, were asked to throw up their gang signs, but the men said they were not in a gang.
ABC 7 noted that 18-year-old Mario Elvira, apparently unsatisfied with their response, pulled out a machete. He swung the weapon at the 26-year-old, striking him in the neck and head. Elvira continued the violent assault until the next train arrived and then the group fled on foot.
Police later caught up with the suspects and made the arrests.
The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his cuts.
On Tuesday, two 15-year-old boys and one 15-year-old girl were all charged with trespassing. One boy also faces an aggravated battery charge.
Four adults, Jean Salvatierra, 23, Kevin Ramierz, 19, Kevar Preston, 20, and Elvira were charged with robbery, aggravated assault and trespassing. They are being held on bail between $250,000 and $450,000.
