Songs of Innocence feels like the band returned to their early musical roots and was able to recapture that magic within these tracks. The album features tracks that have the soul of rock ‘n’ roll and what U2 is about as a band. They are in their element when they are playing soaring and sweeping songs in front of sold out stadiums.
The album opens with “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” and the single brings the energy up on the album from the opening note. “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” contains impressive guitar rifts, stand out percussion and of course, Bono’s one of a kind vocal delivery. When these elements come together, U2 proves that they have created a sound all their own and returning to the original musical roots.
A highlight of Songs of Innocence is that the lyrics within the singles really tell the story about how the band came together and their personal journey through making music history.
For fans of U2 they will not be disappointed with this release because it is clear that the band had passion, energy and a desire to create a quality product that would create new hits. For music fans that are just discovering this rock ‘n’ roll band, this album can serve as a gateway to an entire U2 education that goes back to 1976.
Stand out tracks on the album include “Volcano,” “Sleep Like a Baby Tonight” and “Iris (Hold Me Close).”
