We like to think that our favorite superheroes are invincible, but even the most powerful heroes sometimes meet their ultimate death.
As Marvel releases the first edition of the four-issue mini-series, which we talked about a few months ago, the world will prepare to say goodbye to their favorite cigar smoking mutant in The Death of Wolverine.
Wolverine made his debut back in 1974 and since then has been slicing his way into our hearts, especially with the help of Hugh Jackman's portrayal in the X-Men movies.
"What better time to kill someone than their 40th birthday," Marvel editor in chief Axel Alonso told USA Today in an interview.
Some people think that even after Wolverine dies this month, it's only a matter of time before writers find a way to bring him back. Writer of the series, Charles Soule, begs to differ.
"The idea is to not bring him back. This isn't one of those stories where he's back in two weeks. The point is to tell an awesome ending for Wolverine," Soule said to fans at Fan Expo this past week, according to Bleeding Cool.
This isn't the first time Wolverine has died, but considering that Wolverine has even survived being ripped in half by the Hulk in Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk, it will be exciting to see who lands the killing blow.
After Death of Wolverine, Soule will also write the sequel to the series that explores a world without Wolverine called Weapon X Project.
You can pick up the first issue of Death of Wolverine on September 3.
