The latest film in the X-Men franchise is moving ahead, and we now have official word about when cameras will begin rolling.

According to Coming Soon, X-Men: Apocalypse will begin shooting in April of 2015. Production will begin in Montreal at the end of this year in Mel’s Studio where the previous installment, X-Men: Days of Future Past, was also shot.

This puts the film on track for its current release date of May 27, 2016, placing it two months after the other highly anticipated superhero film of that year, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is already in production.

The plot details of Apocalypse are still unclear, but we do know that it will follow the same series as First Class and Days of Future Past. According to Slashfilm, the film will follow up with the past characters of Days of Future Past, taking place in the 1980s. This would be about ten years after the events of Future Past.

Co-writer Simon Kinberg has said that some original cast members will appear, according to Slashfilm, but it’s not yet clear who might return and how they might be incorporated into the story, especially given the 1980's setting.

We also know the film’s primary antagonist will be Apocalypse, a very powerful mutant who appeared at the end of Days of Future Past and is one of the franchise’s primary villains in the comics.

X-Men: Apocalypse was announced very soon after the huge success of Days of Future Past which, according to Box Office Mojo, made $745 million worldwide, becoming the fourth highest grossing film of the summer.
