It's no surprise that with nearly 19 million subscribers, Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights for The Smosh Movie, starring some of the most popular YouTube stars.

Smosh is a comedy channel on YouTube created by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. Together, Padilla and Hecox create videos and sketches that spoof all things in popular culture.

Padilla talked with Variety about the first thing the comedy duo had to learn before making the feature length movie.

“We had to learn how to act. In our sketches we’re just doing our own thing. In the movie, we’re each playing ourselves...but it was exaggerated versions of our lives.”

The Smosh Movie is being produced by both AwesomenessTV and DEFY Media.

AwesomenessTV President Brian Robbins told the Los Angeles Times that he believes digital stars are future stars of tomorrow, "'It's really exciting ... and I think that Lionsgate acquiring the movie shows just how far the digital landscape has come.'"

The movie will also star many other YouTube celebrities like Jenna Marbles and Shane Dawson.

“We’re friends with a lot of them, and we were looking at the script and looking at ways to get them in. Sometimes we had them in mind when we were writing it, and sometimes we tailored it to them later,” Padilla added in his interview with Variety.

The Smosh Movie does not have a release date quite yet but in the mean time you can check out Smosh's YouTube channel here.
