Chicago Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston will miss the rest of the season due to an injury. He tore the ACL in his right knee during Sundays game.
The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. With the score 48-23, Houston sacked Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at the Bears 20-yard line. After the sack he celebrated by skipping a few yards down the field, then jumped and landed on both feet.
As he was landing on his feet he made a wave with both arms and his knees buckled and he fell to the ground, according to the Chicago Tribune. After he fell he stood up immediately but then fell on the ground again. He walked off the field on his own, but was carted off the field.
“Just landed wrong,” Houston said. “Tried to hop up and it just didn't feel right. So we'll find out what happened (Monday). I probably shouldn't have celebrated while they were blowing us out, but it happens.”
Houston signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Bears in March. The contract includes $14.9 million in guarantees. Houston is a five-year veteran of the NFL. The sack on Sunday though was his first of the season, according to ESPN.
Houston is not the only Bears player that’s out for the season. Left guard Matt Slauson is out for the rest of the season with a torn right pectoral muscle. Slauson will be in rehab for three to four months. Right tackle Jordan Mills will likely replace Slauson. The Bears are expecting to have injured linebackers Lance Briggs and Jon Bostic back after their bye week.
