Even though the show was cancelled after two seasons because no one was watching, Mitch Glazer is hoping that Bruce Willis and Bill Murray could get audiences interested in a Magic City movie.

The movie will be written and directed by Glazer, who also created the short-lived Starz series with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danny Huston and Olga Kurylenko. According to Deadline, the production will be financed by RadPack, Onex Corporation, AI Film. Alan J. Helene, Glazer and Shangri-La Entertainment’s Steve Bing will producer.

Clearly, the hope is that cameos from A-listers Willis and Murray will draw some kind of an audience, since the stars of the TV show aren’t exactly household names. The series stars are all expected to return.
The series, which Starz ended in August 2013, felt like a Mad Men knock-off, but with nudity and set in a Miami casino. It started in the early 1960’s and found Morgan as a casino owner who made the unfortunate mistake of working with a mob boss (Huston) while also trying to run a respectable business.

Magic City not only failed to get viewers, but it also wasn’t a hit with critics, although Huston did manage to get a Golden Globe nomination.
Glazer did work with Murray on Scrooged. Murray and Willis appear in QED’s upcoming Rock the Kasbah. QED is also involved in Magic City, since it will be introducing the project at the American Film Market next week, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
