Universal Pictures must be hoping for more mainstream fare from Joel & Ethan Coen's next film, since the studio has scheduled the acclaimed filmmakers’ new movie for a release outside of an awards season.
Hail, Caesar! will be released on Feb. 5, 2016, according to the Box Office Mojo schedule. That’s a curious date, since the film is packed with A-listers, comes from Oscar-winning directors and could play a part during that year’s awards season.
The film is headlined by George Clooney and was picked up by Universal in June.
It got an entirely different plot early in the year, but is still a Hollywood story. Hail will give audiences an inside look at how the 1950s Hollywood studio system kept up their stars’ squeaky clean images.
Other members of the ensemble cast include Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill.
Hail will be the Coens’ first film since 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis, which was critically acclaimed, but missed out on major Oscar nominations. The brothers are best known for The Big Lebowski, Fargo and the 2007 Best Picture Oscar winner No Country for Old Men.
While they don’t have their own movie this year, they did contribute to the screenplay for Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, which Universal is releasing on Christmas Day.
