Disney has announced that a new heroine will be on the rise in 2016. They are set to debut the new animated film, Moana, which will make it their 56th feature in animation.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the film takes place in the ancient place of Oceania, which is located in the South Pacific. It is the story of a teenage girl who enjoys navigation and sets on a journey across the sea to look for an island.
Disney revealed, “During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and ancient folklore.”
The directors for the film have done other Disney films, such as Aladdin and they are Ron Clements and John Musker.
Vulture reported that at first, many only knew that the movie was about a Polynesian princess and that it wouldn’t be released until the year 2018.
Disney posted a first look image of the animated princess on Twitter.
In a statement regarding the princess, Musker said, “Moana is indomitable, passionate, and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself.”
