Singer Jhene Aiko isn’t just musically inclined; she’s spreading her wings into the fashion world by launching her own jewelry line.
Aiko worked on the line with Luv AJ designer Amanda Thomas and together, they worked on a line totally inspired by Aiko’s personality and music. The three piece collection features symbols from Aiko’s Buddhist way of life. Two of the items, a brass necklace and a cuff ring, feature the dharma wheel, which is a symbolic representation of the path toward nirvana.
The last item in the collection is an ID bracelet engraved with the words “souled out,” which is also the title of Aiko’s debut album reports BET.
Aiko’s collaborator Thomas spoke about the line and their influences telling MTV “A lot of merch is kind of throw-away. You get a t-shirt because you love the artist, but then you just end up sleeping in it. We wanted to make pieces that feel like you can actually wear them all the time. They don’t feel like they scream ‘fan,’ so they work seamlessly into whatever you style is.”
Thomas also revealed that Aiko was a breeze to work with over the summer, noting that she knew she wanted brass before the two even sat down for a meeting.
The price of the pieces ranges from $35 to $42 and are available to purchase now on Aiko’s fan site.
