This sounds like a comic book fan’s dream, but who knows if it’s true? The idea of Spider-Man swinging into the Marvel Cinematic Universe sounds cool and it could - stressing the word could - actually happen.

In a report about how Hollywood is dealing with the monster that Marvel has become, HitFix looked at the Disney-based studio’s relationship with Fox and Sony. Fox still has the film rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men universes, while Sony is home to the web-slinger and his cohorts.

The relationship between Fox and Marvel could not be worse. On the publication side, Marvel has been keeping the X-Men as far from the X-Men movie lovers know, going as far as killing Wolverine. There’s also rumors that Deadpool might die in the comics, just as Fox is finally starting work on a Deadpool movie. Finally, the Fantastic Four isn’t being built up as much as one would expect with a new movie coming out next year.

But HitFix paints a much more rosy picture with Sony. In fact, there might be a chance that Spider-Man could enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The two sides are apparently talking about a way to bring him in. Of course, that’s not confirmed at all, but Sony is having some big issues with the Amazing Spider-Man franchise.

ASM 3 has already been delayed two years and the Sinister Six movie isn’t coming out until 2016. There is a lot of pressure on these projects to work out, since Sony has no other movie franchise. Making a deal with Marvel wouldn’t hurt.

Of course, Marvel will always be kicking themselves for giving out screen rights to Spider-Man and X-Men, but how were they supposed to know in the late 1990s what would happen in the following decades.

Since they made those deals, Daredevil is the only character they’ve won back, since Fox could never figure out how to reboot it after the Ben Affleck disaster.
