Paul Reubens has confirmed that a new Pee-wee movie is coming soon and he’s got a big name attached.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Reubens confirmed that Judd Apatow is still on board to produce. He said that they are a week away from finally making official announcements, but he just had to assure Fallon that the rumors are true.

Reubens also confirmed that a director has already been hired, but that was one bit of info he wanted to hold back for the official announcement. Filming will start in February.

We do know that Steven Spielberg won’t direct, but if he did, it would be called P.T.

Earlier this month, Reubens spoke with Rolling Stone about returning to Pee-wee Herman for a film and told the magazine that he wasn’t kidding about it. “It’s going to be amazing,” he said.

While fans wait for a new Pee-wee movie, those with a few extra bucks can pick up the complete Pee-wee’s Playhouse series on Blu-ray from Shout Factory.

Reubens also explained to Fallon the genesis of the beloved Pee-wee character. The character was conceived during an improv session as a comedian who couldn’t deliver punchlines. He also got on The Dating Game as Pee-wee Herman.
