The cause of death of American Idol season 7's alumni, Michael Johns, 35, has been revealed. The coroner's report says that the singer died from an enlarged heart and fatty liver.
Back in August, it was reported that Johns had died. A source said that the singer had complained of chest pains and his mother took him to the emergency room. He died the following day.
According to Johns' close friend, Torrey Gimbill, Johns had complained that his leg was hurting. He suspected that he might have had a blood clot. TMZ is reporting that, at the time of his death, Johns' leg was badly swollen and bruised, and that a sprained ankle may have been to blame.
TMZ is also reporting that, according to the Orange County Coroner's report, Johns died from natural causes. He ultimately died because of a disease called dilated cardiomyopathy, which is a condition that prevents the flow of blood throughout the body, causing Johns' heart to enlarge.
Johns' best friend, however, suspects that the singer actually drank himself to death, which could explain the fatty liver. A fatty liver can be caused by an excessive intake of alcohol, although it could also be caused by other things.
Johns was reportedly a heavy drinker, and drank just hours before his death.
