Blizzard announced a new expansion for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft called Goblins vs. Gnomes.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is Blizzard's first attempt at using their video game properties in a free to play, micro-transaction game. In this case, the video game titan is featuring their Warcraft franchise as a competitive card game.

The new expansion adds more than 120 new and unpredictable cards to the game that are sure to shake things up for players that are currently dominating the leader boards.

Gamespot reported that as of September, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has more than 20 million players. Although, it should be noted that this does not necessarily mean all 20 million players are active considering the game is free to play.

Still, it seems Blizzard has tapped into a new market and plans to continue adding content to the card game which lets you collect digital cards by paying either with earned in-game gold or with real money which costs $2.99 for 2 packs of cards.

"So here’s the thing. We’re here to stay, we’re going to make content for a long time and so there’s no real rejects," senior producer of the game Yong Woo told IGN. "What’s great about it is that we’re not making boxed products, huge sequels, a game a year or every other year. It’s not like we didn’t do Karazhan this time, goodbye idea. It just goes back into the pool of ideas and we’re planning to make content on a regular cadence. Wait and see."

The Goblins vs. Gnomes expansion comes out in December and also be on the look out for more news about the Warcraft movie, which comes out in theatres March of 2016.
