When it was announced that Warner Bros. was seeking out a female for the director's chair of Wonder Woman, on many people's wish list to helm the film was Michelle MacLaren, a TV director best known for her excellent work on Breaking Bad. Well, it appears that the studio may have listened to their fans, for MacLaren is now the frontrunner to call the shots on the new superhero movie.

Both Latino Review and The Wrap are reporting this new rumor. In fact, Variety is going as far as to state MacLaren is in talks for the job. Neither Warner Bros. or representatives of MacLaren are confirming she's making the 2017 movie, starring Gal Gadot in the title role, continuing the performance from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. There are rumors that the film will take place in the 1920s, similar to how Captain America: The First Avenger's origin story took place in the past, but this is not confirmed.

Reports are saying that there's an official shortlist for the job, with MacLaren at the top of their list. Although no one is publishing the full list, apparently not everyone on the possible filmmakers for the project is female, as originally reported. Though if MacLaren gets the job, she will be the first female director to make a superhero movie since Lexi Alexander made Punisher: War Zone in 2008.

MacLaren's latest work was helming an episode of the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, set to air at the beginning of next year. Whether or not she gets the job, more information will come with the new movie with time.
