Michelle MacLaren, who has helmed episodes of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, will direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros.
While MacLaren was linked to the project early last month, The Hollywood Reporter’s sources say that she has officially signed on. She is also expected to be heavily involved in the script development process, although her writers haven’t been named yet.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder will product, with Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven. It is scheduled for June 2017.
Gal Gadot, who will make her debut in the part in Dawn of Justice, will play the title character.
THR reports that Warner Bros. was feeling the pressure to hire a woman to helm the project and, considering her background, MacLaren was the perfect candidate. She has been directing television since 2002, beginning with The X-Files. She’s also helmed episodes of The Walking Dead, NCIS, The Leftovers and Hell on Wheels.
This will be the first big-budget studio superhero feature helmed by a woman. Patty Jenkins was famously hired to do Thor: The Dark World, but that movie was ultimately directed by Alan Taylor.
