Who would have thought that Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind You, Me and Dupree, would one day go on to become the helmers responsible for some of the most anticipated big-budget superhero films of the next couple years? After directing this year's Captain America: The Winter Solider, the brother team are already hard at work on its sequel, Captain America: Civil War, set to hit theaters May 6, 2016. But they may soon be in charge of two of Marvel's most anticipated films, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 as well.
Deadline reported on the matter when revealing that Daniel Bruhl was cast in the new Captain America film. They would be taking over directing duties from Joss Whedon, who call the shots on The Avengers and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Should this be true, the directors would be tied up with the comic book studio until May 3, 2019, a long-term commitment, to say the least. If the directing duo already has visions for the future, this would definitely short-sight their future plans.
Regardless, neither the new Captain America or Avengers films are actually the next projects for the filmmakers. That would be, according to Rope of Silicon, the season six premiere of Community, which is set to premiere on Yahoo! Screen in early 2015.
