While it won’t fill any of the plot holes of Interstellar, Christopher Nolan has written a short comic that will help provide audiences with some background for a key character in the film.

During the second hour of the film, Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and Brand (Anne Hathaway) meet Dr. Mann (Matt Damon), who landed on an ice world on the other side of the wormhole near Saturn. In the new comic for Wired, Nolan gives a little more information on Mann, before Cooper and his crew arrived.

The comic, titled Absolute Zero, was drawn by Sean Gordon Murphy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan guest edited the entire current issue of Wired. It will hit newsstands on Nov. 25.

This isn’t the first time Nolan has expanded on a story point in one of his films with a comic book. He also wrote The Cobol Job, a short comic prologue to 2010’s Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio. Since Nolan doesn’t usually release deleted sequences, these comics give audiences a look at other ideas Nolan has for his movies.

While Interstellar hasn’t been the box office smash Paramount may have been hoping for, it has still grossed over $300 million worldwide so far.
